At Crossfit Tamworth we offer a full Crossfit program, cardio sessions and also we offer two Olympic weight lifting sessions per week. We call it our “Barbell Club”. We offer is on a Monday and Wednesday and it is one of our most popular classes. Although we are a Crossfit centered gym we firmly believe that Olympic weightlifting can completely change a persons or clients holistic levels of strength and fitness. We do offer support and personal guidance on the more basic gym lifts such as the squats, deadlift and shoulder press but in our opinion Olympic weightlifting has no equal for developing speed, flexibility and coordinated, total-body strength and muscle. In short all the elements to help our clients achieved whatever their Crossfit goals are.
For all our clients we discuss the benefits of Olympic Weightlifting and our Barbell Club, these being:
· Increased Power in all their movements. As you know power is scientifically defined as the amount of force applied multiplied by the distance traveled divided by the time it takes to move an object.
· It will Increase their jumping ability.
· It will Increases their Speed in movements.
· Improves Body Composition.
· Improves Core Strength/Stability.
One of the main concerns from our clients is that they do not feel that Olympic lifting will give them a cardio workout. But if you think about all Olympic lifts, the quads are worked in the squat while the shoulders and arms are used to whip the bar overhead and studies have also shown that a few months of Olympic weightlifting improves resting heart rate, blood pressure, and VO2 max, areas of health that are typically targeted with “cardio” workouts.
The key to all Barbell work is to always make sure you have a coach / trainer with the correct skills to teach you to move the bar in both the safest and most efficient manner throughout your work outs.
